After hearing so much about Spoonbill
over the past couple of years, but never having seen them play, I
finally saw them last weekend at Rainbow Serpent Festival... and,
well, I loved it. Really nice, groovy dubby sounds - a great
wind up to the outstanding Ott (that's another post - one day when
i find the words to justify his music).
So I decided to go see Spoonbill play their own gig at the
Northcote Social Club last night... and I must say I was blown
away. The music was quite different to last week - much
trippier & more abstract... but what really set this show apart
is the effort that went in to preparing the show.
The visualisations were spectacular - incredibly well synced to
the music... even hands clapping were in sync, everything. I
could tell that a rediculous amount of effort had gone into the
planning of this set, and it really paid off. Top it up with
some sexy air-hostess girls to introduce the show, some banging
psychedelic breakbeats and some oddball humour along the way and
you have a fantastic audio-visual show enjoyed by all.
All that for just $12... can't go wrong! Looking forward
to seeing them again... and if you ever have the chance to see
Spoonbill play - do it! They're wicked!
